The Nissan Ariya is the first on our list of electric cars under $50000, which will debut in 2023 and will be the automaker’s second electric vehicle, following the Nissan Leaf.

Compared to the Leaf, the Ariya is bigger, stronger, and more responsive, and it has sportier handling that is enjoyable to drive on twisting roads.

It offers a big interior with plenty of cargo space and a sizable, user-friendly infotainment display. It comes with a starting price of $44,485.

To help alleviate range anxiety, there are options for front-wheel or all-wheel drive and normal or extended-range batteries.

Front-wheel-drive versions with the regular battery should provide a range of 216 miles for drivers, while extended-range battery packs should provide a range of 289 miles to 304 miles, depending on the vehicle’s trim level.

ProPilot Assist 2.0 has hands-free driving features and is also included in top Ariya models to help drivers relax during long drives and regular commutes.

The top trims of the Ariya are more expensive than the best variants of the Ioniq 5 and EV6.

Driving fans will enjoy the performance versions that the Mustang Mach-E offers. In early 2023, Nissan Ariya trim levels will appear at dealerships.

2. 2023 Kia Niro EV

In its second generation redesign for 2023, Kia’s well-liked Niro EV receives a less wagon-like body and a contemporary interior.

Because of this, it is more attractive both on the road and in the showroom. It has a starting price of $40,745.

The “airplane” side panel is a distinguishing feature, offered in contrasting colors.

It enhances Niro’s aerodynamics by forcing air via a vent to prevent drag. The blade increases the Niro EV’s range, which Kia estimates to be 253 miles per charge.

With 258 miles, the Hyundai Kona Electric slightly surpasses the Niro, although The inside of the 2023 Niro EV is larger than that of its predecessor and most rivals combined.

Only VW’s ID.4 can carry more passengers overall. With the back seats folded down, the Niro EV has more rear headroom than its competitors and is only outdone by the ID.4 in total load capacity.

Although the price is higher than the competition’s, Niro EVs sold after December 31, 2022, no longer qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit because of new regulations requiring North American manufacture. The Leaf and Bolt EUV remain qualified.

After applying that credit, their true cost may be $19,000 to $25,000 less.

Unlike rivals from Chevy and VW, the Niro lacks an all-wheel-drive option, which is usually helpful in cold and wet climates.

It’s also not a speedster with 201 horsepower. However, it boasts a smooth ride, assured handling, and a warm cabin designed after the EV6.

Overall, the 2023 Niro EV has many amenities, a great appearance, and a great range.

If price isn’t a deciding issue, the combination and Kia’s 10-year warranty on EV batteries make it an appealing option among compact crossover EVs.

3. Subaru Solterra

The outdoor adventure capabilities of its vehicles have made Subaru a niche market leader, but it has never been known for its fuel efficiency.

But because today’s market demands lower emissions from automakers, Subaru and Toyota partnered more than five years ago to build the first EV jointly; it would support as well as an EV platform each could use.

It comes to $46,220. Subaru’s first all-electric car is a twin of the Toyota bZ4X, which was reviewed independently.

It is a precursor to the manufacturer’s intended lineup of EVs and gas-electric hybrids. The so-called Toyobaru twins’ main distinctions are price, substance, and appearance.

While the bZ4X offers both front- and all-wheel drive, Subaru only sells all-wheel drive Solterras.

The Solterra’s body cladding is matte black instead of Toyota’s glossy black and has its grille. It also utilizes a separate lighting scheme.

One-pedal driving is one of its standard features, which the Toyota either lacks or offers as an extra-cost option.

And because of those added features, the Solterra is likewise more expensive than similar versions of its sibling.

While Toyota will only sell the bZ4X in the first 12 EV-friendly areas, starting with California, the Solterra will initially be sold in all 50 states, with market demand determining how many more each region will receive.

4. Hyundai Kona Electric

The entry-level class of subcompact crossovers includes the two-row Hyundai Kona Electric.

It was well-received when it was first released in 2019 and continues to compete well against the Kia Niro EV.

Price is always a concern, but when buying an EV, range and charging times are equally important.

Direct competitors of the Kona Electric all have similar range predictions and charging periods. Starting price is $34,885.

Although prices vary widely, the Leaf and Bolt siblings start considerably below the base price of the Kona Electric, the ID.4 is heading upward, and the base Model 3 is hundreds of dollars more expensive than the most expensive Kona EV.

A few additional standard features are added to the 2023 Kona Electric Cars Under 000 list, and its style, which had a significant revamp in 2022, is still current.

5. Ford Mustang Mach-E

A small electric SUV with the performance of its sports car namesake is the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Daily commutes are a breeze thanks to the Mustang Mach-quiet E’s powertrain, responsive handling, and 312-mile maximum range.

It can also be recharged at home or while traveling. There are 4 model options available for the 5-seat Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Select RWD, which has an Electric engine and Rear rear-wheel drive and starts at $48,195, is the most popular design.

According to estimates, this Mustang Mach-E will get 105 MPGe in the city, also 93 MPGe while on the highway.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E offers a compact SUV’s comfort and functionality with more efficiency.

Drivers benefit from a large infotainment screen, a digital gauge cluster, and lots of cabin and storage space.

Long commutes are made comfortable and silent by the ride.

Although Ford frequently compares the Mach-E to the Mustang sports vehicle, this is not a copy.

It’s a skillfully done introduction to the new driving method for first-time electric vehicle buyers.

6. Ford F-150 Lightning

An auto industry executive is probably asking why releasing an electric pickup on the market took so long.

The most popular electric cars under $50000 in the US are pickups, so it makes sense that trucks would be a better candidate for EV adoption than wedge-shaped ones.

The tip of the EV spear may be the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. It starts at roughly the same price as a conventional gas-powered Ford F-150 and is almost as capable of hauling and towing.

It is fully furnished and loaded with cutting-edge technology, and it can power your house in the event of a power outage.

Additionally, it has cooler lighting but otherwise resembles a standard F-150. Price at $41,769.

Early entrants like the GMC Hummer EV and Rivian R1T are joining the F-150 Lightning in the increasing pool of electric trucks.

Compared to Lightning, the GMC is significantly more expensive, and Rivian has been slow to increase R1T production.

The Rivian is slightly smaller and more expensive than the Ford (its cargo bed is only 4.5 feet long), but it already seems highly capable off-road.

Next year, an electric Chevrolet Silverado is expected, and eventually, Tesla’s Cybertruck might appear.

The F-150 Lightning may eventually become the first EV pickup for most truck buyers in the interim.

7. Polestar 2

The Polestar brand was born when a Swedish racing team started modifying Volvos for the track in the mid-1990s.

Volvo officially selected Polestar as its tuning partner in 2009. After the automobile firm acquired it in 2015, Polestar became a separate electric vehicle manufacturer under the Volvo Car Group controlled by China’s Geely Auto two years later, costing $47,200.

The Polestar 2 is neither as luxurious as tiny EVs like the Audi e-Tron nor the Jaguar I-Pace, nor is it as thrilling as the Tesla Model 3 or as flamboyant as the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

However, it has a joyful driving experience, one of the most cutting-edge entertainment systems on the market, continues the Volvo history of cutting-edge driver assistance, and has a cozy and understated interior with adequate storage space.

The 2021 Polestar 2’s higher cost and shorter range were its greatest competitive disadvantages.

A more affordable, longer-range single-motor version will be added in 2022 to close the gap and become more competitive.

8. Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 exemplifies how far EV technology has advanced recently.

EVs were on the fringe when their first wave appeared roughly ten years ago due to their short range (the original Nissan Leaf only went 73 miles between charges) and distinctive design.

Model 3 is evidence that today’s EVs have advanced in the greatest ways conceivable.

It boasts a sleek design, excellent battery range, and cutting-edge technology that have helped other Tesla vehicles attract a large audience.

The Model 3 is also a reasonably accessible option because it is the most reasonably priced electric vehicle in the brand’s inventory. The price comes to $48,190.

Some people may not like the sparse styling cues on this Tesla. Rival vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Porsche Taycan have interiors that align with conventional notions of luxury.

However, the sculptural, cutting-edge Model 3 is a front-runner for its capacity to connect the past, present, and future.

9. Toyota bZ4X

With the Prius, Toyota established its reputation in the hybrid market. With the brand-new bZ4X SUV, Toyota is now making its mark in the battery-electric market.

The bZ4X is immediately recognized as a tiny SUV akin to the Toyota RAV4 once you get past the strange acronym “Beyond Zero, the small crossover.

There is plenty of internal passenger and cargo room because the bZ4X is larger in most measurements. Price: $43,335.

The bZ4X exclusively comes in the battery-electric form, unlike the RAV4, which also comes in gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid forms.

It is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD); AWD models have higher power.

The new electric crossovers that directly compete with the ID include the Subaru Solterra, which is almost the same size as the standard Toyota RAV4, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Nissan Leaf SV Plus. 3.

The all-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y is comparable in size but costs a third more than the ID’s least expensive. All-wheel-drive model.

Future Nissan Ariya models might successfully compete against the ID in some markets.

10. Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen ID.4 is next on our list of electric cars under $50000 crossover for 2022. It received the most criticism for its $42,525+ starting price, which turned off many EV buyers.

This is addressed in the new $38,790 Standard basic model for the 2023 model year.

Of course, there is a cost to this: A smaller battery resulted in a lower price and a shorter range of 208 miles as opposed to the previous base trim’s 275 miles.

The ID.4 is a capable crossover with class-leading load capacity and a big, pleasant, and quiet cabin in any configuration.

It has a classy, contemporary interior with high-quality materials and an attractive, classic SUV exterior.

The second-row seats are roomy, particularly in vehicles with the optional panoramic sunroof.

There is also plenty of space for freight, and models with huge batteries can tow.

With the larger battery, an all-wheel drive is an option that gives the ID.4 more traction and torque for driving in icy and rainy weather.

Passing power is adequate, and steering is accurate and not overly difficult. The majority of driving features favor cruising on the freeway. Price at $40,290.

The Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra are about the same size as the conventional Toyota RAV4, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Nissan Leaf SV Plus, the new electric crossovers that directly compete with the ID. 4.

The all-wheel-drive Tesla Model Y is similar in size, which costs a third more than the ID’s least costly all-wheel-drive model.

Future Nissan Ariya models could compete favorably with the ID in some areas.

11. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai is recognized for producing dependable, attractive vehicles and crossovers at reasonable rates, and the 2023 Ioniq 5 EV checks most of those boxes.

It is available in four grades, with two different battery sizes and all-wheel or rear-wheel drive, ranging from well-equipped to loaded and opulent.

It is cozy, has good handling, and is enjoyable to drive. The most expensive trims cost nearly $60,000 if there is a drawback.

The actual price comes to $42,785.The Ioniq 5 offers a range of 303 miles, more than most of its rivals in the rear-wheel-drive configuration with the long-range battery.

Additionally, the all-wheel-drive trims’ range is increased by 10 miles to 266 miles for 2023, along with a modest improvement in fuel economy.

So, the Ioniq 5 offers ultra-rapid DC fast-charging, which is only rivaled by similarly priced EVs like the Audi e-Tron GT and Lucid Air and the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.

Hyundai also expands the number of states where the Ioniq 5 is sold and serviced at dealerships.

There will be 38 states where the 2023 models will be accessible when they arrive in the late summer, up from 10 in early 2022 when sales started.

12. 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Lastly, Realistically, the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is just a larger version of the hatchback Bolt, although it does have two feature packages that aren’t available on the smaller model.

The first is the $2,500 “Sun & Sound” package option, which equips the vehicle with a 7-speaker Bose premium audio system and a panoramic sunroof.

The other, much more valuable upgrade costs $2,200 and adds level 2 autonomous driving to the vehicle.

It is called “Super Cruise.” For those unfamiliar, level 2 autonomous driving still requires the driver to remain alert and behind the wheel, but they are not always required to touch the controls.

The vehicle can drive itself on compatible roads despite having driver-monitoring devices.

On appropriate roads, the car will drive itself, though it does feature driver monitoring systems that will alarm if you appear inattentive or, worse, asleep. If nothing happens, it will gently stop the vehicle.

Another benefit of Super Cruise is that even if you are operating the vehicle.

The computer will apply the brakes if it anticipates an unavoidable collision before you know one is coming.
